Who we are, ...

The Society for the Promotion of Sudanese Studies is a non-profit organisation that was founded in 1986 at the Department of African Studies, at the University of Vienna, Austria.

... what we do, ...

Our main objective is the publication of articles in the field of Sudanese Studies. The contents can cover anything that falls geographically between the first cataract of the Nile and Southern Sudan, or chronologically into the period from prehistory to the end of the Christian Nubian kingdoms.
So far we have published contributions on history, historiography, archaeology, architecture, religion, art, iconography, sociology, economy, ecology, languages of prehistoric as well as ancient and medieval Sudan.

... and what we do it for

The editorial board of both "Beiträge zur Sudanforschung" series grants worldwide distribution.
Our aim is to encourage the scientific discourse in the field of Sudanese Studies and to provide a platform where researchers can publish their findings, their articles and ideas.
Various African institutions receive the volumes free of charge to contribute to the improvement of institutional libraries and to the promotion of Sudanese Studies.
